Message: Wine producers have been able to ship their products directly to consumers like me for more than three decades, yet Illinois still does not allow distillers to ship their products directly to consumers. There is no reason distillers should be prohibited from doing the same. Allowing distillers to ship directly to consumers would increase consumer convenience and provide support to the more than 50 distilleries in Illinois. Distilleries in the state are facing harsh economic conditions including staff shortages, supply chain issues and increasing inflation. DTC shipping is a stable source of revenue and a lifeline for these businesses. Plus, it allows me to support distillers and ship my favorite spirits just like I can already do with wine. The distilled spirits industry supports more than 79,100 jobs in Illinois and generates $7.8 billion in state GDP. In order for distillers of all sizes to continue to support the Illinois economy, please support legislation that would allow spirits direct-to-consumer shipping which: •increases convenience for consumers; •supports Illinois distillers and boosts tourism to the state; •provides increased revenue for Illinois Direct-to-consumer shipping has, will, and should continue to serve as an additional market access channel to complement the traditional three-tier system of alcohol beverage distribution. As wine producers have demonstrated over the past 30 years in Illinois, there are well established and appropriate responsibility measures already in place to ensure shipments of alcohol are done in a safe manner that does not allow minors to illegally access beverage alcohol. Please act quickly to support Illinois distillers and the hospitality sector by allowing spirits direct-to-consumer shipping. Thank you for your leadership.
